What's up,
We're sorry to inform you all that the last two shows we had booked for this weekend will go on as scheduled but will not feature Changing Skin. In essence, our last show with the current line-up took place at Club 125 two weeks ago. Originally, we had decided that even though we let Chris go, we would still like to keep the last shows together and give him a chance to play one last time in front of as many out-of-state fans as possible. However, due to Chris' inability to meet his responsibilities, we can no longer justify going along with that plan.
The remaining shows were:
Fri. 12.05.03 -- Sat. 12.06.03
If you were planning on going to either or both shows, please still do so. Carlos and I will be there showing our support, and depending on Ken's work schedule, he's planning on being there too. It won't be a goodbye for us as Changing Skin, it'll be more like a "see ya in couple of months"... Thank you for your ongoing support and understanding during this difficult time. We will keep you updated on the progress of Changing Skin. |

What's up?
I know Carlos is usually the one who sends these mailings out, but I figured this time around, it may be more appropriate for me, as tour manager and not a member of the band per se, to do it. I just wanted to get everyone up to date with what's going on with the band since rumors seem to be going around. Let's go through a somewhat brief yet confusing history lesson:
- In August of this year, we "parted ways" with Nellie, who had been our drummer for over a year. At that time, we also "parted ways" with Brad (ex-Breedinground) on bass, who jumped on for about 3 months once Justin had "parted ways."
- At the time, we had two ex-Madwack members help us out, Billy on drums and Steph on bass. Billy was able to help us out for two shows but due to upcoming changes in his personal life (congrats again), he could not help out any longer. Steph has continued to help us out with the understanding that she can only be a temporary solution since she has limited time for practices and is unable to participate in any tours due to her enrollment in college.
- After Billy, we had Joe (ex-Blind By Noon) help us out with a few shows and the Jager Tour on drums. We had a great time but we had the understanding that once the tour was done, we would start a search for a permanent drummer.
- We thought we found that with Matt (ex-Stratejacket). We were pretty set on having him on a permanent basis and things were going well. However, as of last week, issues in his personal life have prevented him from being able to keep that position in this band.
Confused yet? Not only are all these line-up changes frustrating to fans, they're incredibly discouraging to a band. Now back in August was the first time we had to search for a drummer and a bassist simultaneously. Although it was a big hurdle, everything else about the band seemed constant - meaning the other members were set in stone and the music was "Change" and "Family" in style.
However, this time around, faced again with searching for a rhythm section, Carlos had to take a moment and reflect on the direction of the band he started. Many factors have been less than satisfying with the band as of late, forcing Carlos to reach the saddest conclusion in his musical career... that had he not started this band, he would've left it long ago. So, in essence, Carlos has decided to quit Changing Skin as it is today.
But Changing Skin can't go on without Carlos simply because he "owns" it (rights to the songs, trademarks of the name and logo). In other words, CS is still in his name, and will be reborn. He is reinventing the band he started to reflect his new goals. What's the point of playing music that works as is accepted if you're not getting any self-fullfillment from it. He has evolved as a musician and is moving away from hardcore angry vocals to more melody. His ultimate desire is to keep his heavy sound musically and have singing accentuated w/ screams, not the other way around. And unfortunately, this does mean "parting ways" with Chris who's currently on vocals.
Chris is an amazing live performer and has a gift for capturing a crowd. But even he recognizes that he's most suitable for a band like Unearth than the new direction Changing Skin is taking.
So where does all this leave Changing Skin today? Carlos is rebuilding the band and Ken has accepted to continue with him on bass in this "new" project. We came across an amazing drummer this week and things look very good in that sense. So the future is finding a singer. We plan to provide anyone interested with an instrumental version of the 4 newer songs that are fully written but hit a roadblock vocally. Those so inclined, can write to the song and return it to us for a tryout. Please contact Carlos@ChangingSkin.com or Lulu@ChangingSkin.com for a copy.
We have 4 shows with the current line-up (Carlos, Chris, Ken, and Steph) still scheduled:
--
Although this may look like the end, we're actually quite optimistic about the future. A huge weight has been lifted off our shoulders, as this decision was quite hard to make. But the relief and knowing that the band will be fun again is totally worth it. We believe you should feel a sense of accomplishment and pride from the music you create foremost, and that respect from your peers and acceptance by your fans factors in after that.
We will be back stronger and happier in a couple of months and plan to keep you updated on our progress. In the mean time, please stay in touch with us through email, the website, and the message board. The next 2 months that lie ahead will be hard for everyone, but it will be easier to bare knowing all of you are there and as supportive as you always have been.
Thank you for taking the time to read,
Lulu |

| To
our Changing Skin family: We regret to inform you that our good friend Brad Horion will no longer be performing with Changing Skin. We appreciate all his efforts but after 3 months of great shows and fun on the road, we realized that friendship was more important than forcing a business relationship. At this time, we wish Brad the best of luck on any future project and hope he finds his perfect fit. However, we are relieved to announce that we have also parted ways with our drummer Nellie. He may well be one of the best drummers in New England, but he lacked character and never showed any comradery with the band or people present at shows, more importantly our fans. And given his recent behavior which demonstrated once again his lack of professionalism, we are glad to publicly announce our search for a new drummer. With that said, we would like to announce that our 2 friends Billy and Stephanie (formerly of Madwack), have joined forces with CS to help us finish off our upcoming dates. For those of you who attended our last 3 shows this past weekend, you know we're still going and haven't missed a beat. For the road that lies ahead, we will continue to practice with Billy and Steph to keep things going. While still focusing on the upcoming Jagermeister Tour and Locobazooka, Changing Skin will also be trying out new people to take over a permanent role. Thank you Carlos, Chris, Ken and Lulu |
